The 2019 Gilley’s Shield will kick off 40 hours from now with the best players in Australia and from around the world competing for the right to be named the 2019 nationalChampions. At the same time the Under 15 Girl’s Regional Championship will be held at Mirrabooka as the younger girls showcase their talents on the diamond.
The WA Flames went back to back champions in 2010 & 2011, last holding the shield in 2013after a successful campaign in Melbourne that year.
The Flames boast a wealth of talent and experience leading into this year’s event with the likes of Travel Lodge Aussie Spirit veteran and WA Flames captain Leigh Godfrey, Verity Long-Droppert, Leah Parry, Tikki Callander, Jemma Freegard alongside rising stars Maddy Schofield and Holley Onley.
WA strengthened their stocks with USA Pitchers Katie Donovan and Jordan Taylor joining the team for the Championships.
Play gets underway at 10am on Saturday 5th January with the SA Starz taking on the Vic Titans on diamond 1 whilst the ACT Diamonds verse the powerful reigning champions the NSW Firestars on diamond 2.
WA open their campaign at 3pm when the WA Flames come up against the ACT Diamonds and then at 7pm theWA Flames will take on the Qld Heat.
