The South Australian Starz will be out to avenge their 2019 Gilley’s Shield Grand Final defeat by New South Wales when the 2020 Gilley’s Shield gets underway at Mirrabooka International Stadium on January 4th.
Some of the SA Starz to keep an eye on will be Jordan Lambert, Belinda White, Maddie Cameron and Stephanie Trzcinski.
Lambert made her SA State debut in 2008 and will be playing in her 9th Gilley’s Shield championship come January. After making her debut for Australia in 2017 she has played in the USA, Canada and Japan World Cups.
White, who is a catcher for the Starz, hails from the Sturt Falcons making her SA debut in 2004 and soon after made her Australian debut in 2006. White has been capped 160 times for her country having played in 4 World Championships, an Olympic Qualifier and the USA and Canada World Cups.
Fellow Falcons team mate Cameron made her SA debut in 2011. Playing Leftfield or Centerfield she made her Australian debut in 2018 against Japan at the Japan Cup. Her International representation also includes the 2019 NPF, 2017 Kochi City Tour and the 2013 Junior World Championship in Canada.
Former Australian Junior Trzcinski made her state debut in 2009 and is a Pitcher for the Starz. 2020 will be her 8th Gilley’s campaign after playing internationally in Holland, USA and the Czech Republic. Trzcinski was also a member of the 2018/19 Travelodge Aussie Spirit Squad.
Our scouts tell us that last year’s SA Rookie of the Year Georgia Hood will be one to watch at the carnival. Coming off a very successful Junior Aussie Spirit campaign, Hood can contribute with the bat and Pitching duties.
SA will open their campaign against Queensland at 10am Saturday 4th January.
The 2020 Gilley’s Shield will be held at Mirrabooka Stadium from January 4th to 10th.
